whew, ale sure can disappear... just wanted to pop in and say hi, finished up fathom 0 recently... working with sal regla on it, all i can say is amazing! i really hope you guys enjoy it... really wanting to put my unique stamp on the character... not sure when it comes out, but i can't wait! would love to get some more stuff going on here... a little more situated in life so hopefully i'll be posting more regularly... maybe do an art off with one of the fellow aspen guys to kick start it... micah maybe? marcus? francis? mike? heh... lets do something fun guys! woot!!!!!

When I'm cleaning Mike's pencils I like to listen to my Music (or the Adam Carolla Show).
My new favorite indulgence is a website that has hours upon hours of Nine Inch Nails music - a collection of remixes done by tons of different people. You can just hit play on the playlist and it goes and goes and it seems familiar but not at the same time. If your a fan or not - check it out. There is something for everyone.

Hey peeps, I had kind of a "day off" so I decided to try my hand at some coloring. This is one of the only pieces that I've drawn with the specific intention of using color to finish it, so I didn't use any shadows or even much in the way of line-weights in the pencil stage. Done with pencil, using photo ref for the figure, and then colored in PhotoshopCS2 with a Wacom Graphire tablet(sucks). Hope you like it!

WINTER!

I just looked out of the window 20 mins ago and low and behold, it's snowing! And just earlier today it was as warm as 18 Celsius, crazy Calgary weather. The pics are kinda dark but you get the picture.

I was watching one of my favorite cartoons when I was a kid, The Real Ghostbusters. And I don't know if any of you remember this guy but he was the scariest thing I've ever seen growing up, The Boogieman. Man, I shudder thinking about his high pitched voice and clip clopin feet running around with his big drooling head. Scary stuff, so I had to draw him although I drew his head a little small compared to the cartoon. Freaky.

Here are some conceptual designs for a water dispenser that I didn't put in the extra content to the back of Iron and the Maiden issue #3. In case you didn't know - Iron and the Maiden is from the crazy mind of Jason Rubin. He has put so much thought into each and every detail of this book - its insane. I geek out over stuff like this and Iron is jam packed with them. The artwork was done by the cool guys over at Blur Studios, who are also insane... but in a good way.

We announced at a recent convention that our next statue will be an Aspen Matthews statue! Here is the first idea that Turner sketched - which didn't get picked. The Kiani statue set the bar pretty high so we have to make sure this next one is at least at that level.

I thought I should introduce myself~ Hello I'm Mark Roslan, Director of Design and Production. My job involves a lot of different things including putting the books together ready for the printer. Here is an alternate cover by Turner and Steigerwald for Iron and the Maiden #2 that will be at the Canadian National Expo in Toronto this weekend. I put the Logo on there and try to make it work with the cover - in this case I added a glow to compliment the light shinning through the bullet holes.

Try to drop by often and we should have some fun new things going on here. Maybe some inside scoops - some funny photos - new artwork - or just plain stories you wouldn't normally get to hear.

so i'm sitting here it's about 5 in the morning finishing up some titan's pages...thinking about all this craziness...i've been drawing comics for nearly 12 years now...crazy business... also it would seem that one of my artistic influences passed away this past weekend...even crazier business...my condolences go out to his family...mike weiringo rest in peace man, you will be missed... so i'm working it's late i could really use a coke zero... my hairs in my face... and i wish i didn't have a rug burn on my cheek...

THROWDOWN!!!

Hey guys so I figured I needed a new arena to challenge fellow artists, so I came up with this...THROWDOWN! It will be an art challenge where I and perhaps the other artists that post on here decide to challenge another artist at what they draw well!!! For example, artist Carlos D'anda is great at drawing robots, so I would challenge him to a robot draw off! Or Frank Cho-hot chikkies... you get the idea....So hopefully I'll get something set up soon!

Switch it up!!!

So...what is Pomme Noir Comics? Well as alot of you may know, I along with some fellow comic book artists, about two years ago started up a blog by the name of gelattometti. It was an amazing success, both creatively, and as a sounding board to interact with the fans... It grew to be quite big and is still going strong to this day! So... with that now that I, Ale Garza, now a newly minted member of Aspen studios, decided it was high time to give it another shot! So...with Pomme Noir Comics, PNC for all you hip kids...I'll be inviting my new Aspen brethren to come on and share some of thier studio insights, and personalities. Will it be as big of a success as the Wildstorm venture? Only time will tell...Either way...Let's get back to enjoying comics!!!
